Drug could cut asthma therapy

A new drug could eliminate the need for other medications for many of the nation's 17 million asthma sufferers and enable others to cut back sharply on standard drugs, researchers said Sunday. Patients take the experimental drug, known as anti-IgE, by injection once a month or every two weeks. Two studies indicate that the drug prevents asthma attacks in adults and children without major side effects.
